Guilds are official organizations created by members and shaped by members. You do not have to join a guild; it is entirely optional. A lot of members choose to be loners, or stick to their clan within the RP. The advantage to a guild is that it is official, and it has its own forum for its members to discuss guild matters, where other RoH members cannot see.
Guilds provide members with the ability and opportunity to role-play in a more organized fashion than is normally possible by members who simply join together in normal RP. Generally, a guild membership is made up of well experienced RPers.
The Royal Family, through the King, rules Hyrule. The various races have populations in various locations. These groups represent a center of power and control in those areas. Like these kingdoms, Guilds build their guild houses in various locations throughout Hyrule, which represent a base of power controlled by the guild. Guilds strive to protect their property, assets and the people in their dominion.
How to Join a Guild
New membership into a guild is strictly up to the guild master and/or guild members. If you would like to join a certain guild, you must first contact the Guildmaster who runs the guild, requesting admittance into the guild. You can also contact one of the guild members, who can then pass along to the rest of the guild your desire to join. The guild will privately decide if you fit their standards for membership, and you will be notified of the guild’s decision.
You may petition to join a guild at any time, and there are no set rules for joining. However, Guilds will often have some sort of standard, such as post count or character alignment (whether your character is good, evil, or neutral), so it is important to check with the Guildmaster regarding requirements. If you are asked to join a guild, consider it a privilege, since the guild believes either you are a good role-player, or you show good potential to become one.
Guilds may refuse membership to anyone. If membership is refused, then the Guildmaster should supply the reason for disapproval. If you are denied entrance to a guild, attempt to correct the issue based on the reason given. You may re-petition for guild membership at any time.
How to Form a Guild
While having your own guild can be pretty neat, it is no easy task to create one. In order for your guild to make it's opening, you will need a solid guild ideology and a host of members to support it. Without this, your guild will never make it.
- You must be on at least level 10 (121 posts) to start a guild. To begin, post a topic in the The Marketplace with a new guild petition that includes the following information:
- Guild Name
The name of your guild should be posted as the title of your topic. ("Petition: Warriors of the Bent Sword") Your name should be creative (Not like "Warriors of the Bent Sword") and your own original idea (Like "Warriors of the Bent Sword"), unless permitted otherwise.
- Guild Ideology
Your guild ideology is a passage that describes what your guild is all about. Information you should or may want to include in your ideology is your guild's purpose, alignment, history, and goal.
- Guild Rules and Requirements for entry
Your guild may have specific rules to follow, and it may also have requirements to enter. Requirements usually regard decent RP skills and a character that fits the profile of the guild. Others may also regard your RP race and your class, depending on the guild.
- Conditions for Guildmaster
A Guildmaster is the captain and leader of his guild. He or she holds authority over his/her guild forum and the matters that go on in the guild. The Guildmaster is generally the person who created the guild, but some guilds vote for their Guildmaster.
- Petition list
Your guild petition must include a list of members that have signed your petition. In order to "sign" the petition, members, whom are on at least level 10 (121 posts), must post in the petition agreeing to join the guild. If the petition leader deems them worthy of meeting the requirements to join, that member is added to the list. Members who who have already signed the petition for another guild and are a part of or waiting for that guild to get started may not sign the petition for another guild.
- Next, after at least seven members on at least level 10 (121 posts) have signed your petition, have each of them, as well as yourself, must PM an Administrator regarding the creation of your guild. If everything is in order, the Admin will submit your petition to the Scribe Council for review and discussion.
- If approved by the Council, a forum will be created for your guild, and you will be given a password to share with your guild members. If at any time your password must change, for security reasons, PM an Admin to have it changed for you. You are responsible for maintaining your own guild and for ensuring the secrecy of your own password.
At the time of approval, guilds may also have a personal sub-forum in the RP. The guild may select the location, as well as the name of, this sub-forum, and also whether or not it is open to public viewing. This serves the purpose of the guild's physical "base" in the RP, and is generally treated as the Guild Headquarters.
Note: If a guild population, at any time, fluctuates in a negative way (i.e. Losing members at an alarming rate), your guild may be reviewed and possibly disbanded. If a Guildmaster is banned or, for any other reason, leaves, the guild body may appoint a new leader.
Guild Standards and Privileges
Guild members enjoy access to a private guild forum run by their Guildmaster. Members are usually free to do what they like in their guild forum, as long as it is within RoH rules. Guildmasters typically provide a general parameter for what is and is not ok. While these forums are kept completely confidential to the public, Admins will still moderate them as with any other forum on RoH.
Guilds are also given their own personal sub-forum in the RP. The Guild is allowed to select the location of this sub-forum, as well the name. Also available is the option to have it private, like the regular guild forum, or open to the public. The Guild RP sub-forum serves as a "Home Base" for guild members in the RP. All RoH rules still apply in these sub-forums.
Members sometimes like to *Guild Hop* (switching membership from one guild to another in a short time). Guild Hopping can be disruptive to storylines, and can cause confusion. Guild Hopping is strongly discouraged, and many Guilds will not allow you to join if you have a history of loose loyalty.
Guild members usually display their guild affiliation in their forum signatures or profiles, via custom banners created for the guild. While this is not a set rule, most guilds will require it of their members. Even if the Guildmaster does not require its members to portray their membership in this way, it is a good idea, as it makes it easy for others to tell what guild you belong to.
- For a Guild to splinter, that is, to break into two separate guild, there must be 15 members currently active within the original Guild. If a body within the guild desires to break of from the rest, they must send a petition to an Admin. All details contained within a normal petition should be included.
Guilds that willfully and knowingly violate the rules of RoH will be disbanded.
Guilds may expel any member for violation of RoH or established Guild rules.
